Jake’s research involves computational fluid dynamics (CFD), which is used to simulate fluid flow through a domain with given boundary conditions: “The purpose of my Master’s thesis is to allow for CFD simulations to be formed for complex flows around complex geometries.”

Jake is also a 2012 recipient of the Samuel B. Barker Award for Excellence in Graduate Studies ( at the master’s level. The Barker Award, named for UAB’s first graduate dean, is awarded each spring semester to one doctoral and one master’s student.

Construction on the new UAB Student Center will begin in summer 2013. All university units that currently reside within the Hill Center will be temporarily housed at various locations on campus while the new building is being constructed. However, the Graduate School will relocate permanently to the first floor of the Lister Hill Library for the Health Sciences, located between Volker Hall and the Eye Foundation Hospital at 1700 University Boulevard.

“We have devised a plan to help make the transition to our new space as smooth as possible,” said Dean Bryan Noe. “We want to assure graduate students that the services we provide will not be interrupted during the move.”

The Graduate School is tentatively scheduled to move to Lister Hill Library in May 2013. Updates on the progress of the Graduate School’s move to Lister Hill will be posted periodically at
