Doctoral Caps and Gowns
Dress Code/Academic Regalia
Commencement recognizes the academic achievements of UAB graduates and is considered a formal academic ceremony that should be viewed as such in dress and demeanor. The recommended dress for doctoral graduates is comfortable business attire.
The deadline for students to:
- purchase their own custom doctoral regalia is Saturday, March 30, 2013 for the spring ceremonies
- rent a doctoral regalia package is Friday, April 26, 2013 for the spring ceremonies
Grad Send-Off

Barnes & Noble @ UAB will be hosting Grad Send-Off on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, and Wednesday, March 27, from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Grad Send-Off is a one-stop celebration for UAB graduates. Representatives from Balfour, CB Graduation Announcemets, and The University of Alabama at Birmingham National Alumni Society will be present to help graduates with the purchase of cap and gowns, graduation announcements, rings, diploma frames, and mementos. |
Academic Regalia Cost*
Students may:
- purchase their own custom regalia between Monday, February 18, 2013 and the purchase deadline date of Saturday, March 30, 2013
- rent a doctoral regalia package between Tuesday, March 26, 2013 and the rental deadline date of Friday, April 26, 2013.

Rental doctoral regalia will be available at Barnes & Noble @ UAB (Hill University 150, 205-996-2665) one week prior to your ceremony. If you choose shipping* for your rental regalia, it will arrive at your home 3business days prior to the ceremony. Store hours and complete contact information are available on the UAB Bookstore website. Custom purchased regalia will be directly shipped to the address you choose.
*Shipping for the continental United States will be provided for $6.95.
Online/Distance Learning Students
