Alarmed, his mother Ann Marie immediately took him to see a doctor at the local clinic in San Fernando. It was during that examination that a systolic heart murmur was detected and the young man was referred to Dr. Joan Knan, one of the few pediatric cardiologist on the island of Trinidad.
