The Kirklin Clinic at UAB

The Kirklin Clinic provides outpatient care for patients before and after heart and lung transplantation.

The Kirklin Clinic is named for Dr. John W. Kirklin, who came to UAB in 1966 from the Mayo Clinic and served as chairman of the Department of Surgery until 1982. Dr. Kirklin and his team developed and refined many of the techniques and technologies in cardiac surgery. The Kirklin Clinic opened in 1992 as an outpatient facility for the care of UAB patients. It is also where heart and lung transplant recipients go for follow-up care after their surgery.
