“Their strengths will help propel UAB as a leader in basic and outcomes research and will put us closer to better medical therapies,” said Selwyn Vickers, M.D., senior vice president for Medicine and dean of the School of Medicine.

“Competition among AMCs nationally is more intense than ever, and it is not enough to simply keep pace and maintain; UAB must continually excel, innovate and grow,” said President Ray Watts.

Gift supports new building for Collat School of Business, IIE A $1 million donation from Birmingham-based Medical Properties Trust, Inc. will serve as the lead gift for a new building for the Collat School of Business and Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The facility will offer a state-of-the-art learning environment and the technology infrastructure to attract top students, faculty and staff. It will be home to key initiatives in education, research and economic development at UAB.

A strong belief that “education is the true foundation for community growth” motivated the gift, noted Edward K. Aldag Jr., founder and CEO of Medical Properties Trust. “As UAB continues to grow, that will only enhance our position in the health care industry — and Birmingham’s as well.”
