A Patient-Centered Environment

As telling as rankings and credentials might be, the quality of UAB’s care is more evident in the intangibles, chiefly the compassionate, patient-centered approach practiced daily by physicians, nurses and staff. Patients come first at UAB Hospital; help with clinic appointments, hotel-style room service, meditative spaces, and other amenities make for more exceptional service and care. This distinctive focus on patient and family is reflected particularly in two of UAB's newest facilities:

UAB Women and Infants Center features private labor, delivery and recovery rooms for a family-centered birthing experience, and the nation’s largest all-private-room special care nursery consisting of the Regional Newborn Intensive Care Unit and Continuing Care Nursery. There are also special rooms for Caesarean deliveries, expectant mothers experiencing severe pregnancy-related complications, and women undergoing advanced gynecological procedures or treatment for gynecologic cancers.

The Hazelrig-Salter Radiation Oncology Facility offers state-of-the-art radiation equipment and cancer treatments, as well as patient rooms and an adjoining “Park of Hope” that provide a warm, soothing environment for patients and their families.
