Students in the Global and Community Leadership (GCL) Honors Program care deeply about social justice issues confronted by societies around the world. Such issues range from educational disparities, poverty, food insecurity, environmental degradation, healthcare access and quality, and more. Through multi-disciplinary coursework in political science, sociology, public health, and other fields, these students learn about the complex process of social change.

GCL students take the UAB motto “Knowledge that will change your world” to heart, believing they can use knowledge acquired in the classroom to make the world a better place. Throughout the program, students partner with the nearby Woodlawn community on service-learning and civic engagement initiatives. Some GCL students also explore the world through study away; in recent years, our students have studied in South Korea, Dubai, Spain, and Africa.
