Welcome to the UAB Honors College!
| We are a set of student-centered learning communities.
We meet the students where they’re at. Through four distinct signature programs, each an intimate community of scholars focused on a unique mission, we provide today’s honors student with a learning community that welcomes their curiosity and ingenuity.
—we do it well. And we do it with each individual student in mind. |

Our honors students thrive in their learning environments. We know this because of what they are accomplishing on our campus and in our local and global communities.
They start nonprofit organizations that meet needs previously unmet; study disciplines ranging from international policy to peace studies in countries around the globe; investigate cures for malaria and other diseases; garner national and international awards and recognition; inspire and teach students in Birmingham City Schools, Alabama’s Black Belt, and elementary, middle, and high schools across the nation; engineer bamboo wheelchairs for use in third world countries; organize and host scientific tournaments for area high school students….
And they do it as freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors. A cadre of world changers.
Honors education is about more than just preparation for graduation and future employment. It’s about teaching students to learn, to lead, to adapt. It’s about preparing them to excel in careers that don’t currently exist. To seize opportunities for greatness whenever they arise.
As we embark on the next phase in the life of honors education at UAB, I invite you to join us as we continue our commitment to the success of our students, faculty, alumni, and community supporters. I look forward to engaging with you in new and meaningful ways as we remember why the Honors College at UAB exists.
The students are the reason we’re here.
They’re the reason tomorrow’s future is bright!
Sincerely,

Bradley R. Newcomer, Ph.D.
Professor and Associate Dean for Honors
