The only designated level 1 Adult Trauma Facility in the state, the new University Hospital Emergency Department (UED) is also the busiest in the state, treating an average of 45,000 patients per year. Now in its new location on the first floor of the North Pavilion, it has been expanded to 38,000 square feet (nearly triple its previous size.)
Carefully designed for convenience and privacy, it contains ample waiting areas with comfortable seating and 45 private treatment rooms. It will also contain three state-of-the-art trauma rooms equipped for treating life-threatening injuries. The UED is divided into specific patient care areas, each with its own nursing station which will enable the medical staff to see patients more quickly, provide sate-of-the-art treatment, and offer more convenient, comfortable care for patients and their families. Private consultation rooms allow families to meet privately with medical staff to discuss the condition and treatment of loved ones.
The new UED will have separate entrances for ambulances and individuals. An ambulance entrance is located at 5th Avenue South, and patients who arrive by their own mode of transportation can access a separate entrance located at 18th Street South. For patients with non-emergent conditions, the UED will have a Walk-In Clinic with eight rooms.
