Training is available for new and experienced users.Please use the course descriptions below to identify which class best suits your needs. joomla logo smContent Creation in Joomla 

If you are new to Joomla, this workshop will include an introduction to the software and the most basic tasks of editing existing content on UAB sites using the front-end interface. This workshop will feature instruction on how to edit text, add pictures, and create hyperlinks within Joomla articles using the JCE editor. Attendees will receive their own practice site for learning purposes that will be available for 2 weeks after the workshop. As time permits, an open forum will be held to answer any site specific questions concerning the front-end editing of UAB site content.
At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  1. Login the front-end of the website.
  2. Open an existing article and make different types of content edits (edit text, add pictures, and create different types of hyperlinks) using the JCE editor.
  3. Add a new article.

Technical Requirements: No previous experience required. This workshop targets content editors absolutely new to Joomla.

joomla logo smSite Navigation and Administration in Joomla

The purpose of this workshop is to provide an introduction to the Joomla administration features and examine the back-end interface. The focus of this workshop is how to add new categorization, articles, menus, modules, and users to an existing UAB website. Attendees will receive their own practice site for learning purposes that will be available for 2 weeks after the workshop. As time permits, an open forum will be held to answer any site-specific questions.
At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  1. Login the back-end of a Joomla site as an administrator.
  2. Importance of a site plan.
  3. Create a new category.
  4. Create a new article.
  5. Create a new menu.
  6. Display the new menu by creating a module.
  7. Create a new user, assign access permissions, and assign default JCE editor.

Technical Requirements: Joomla experience and a basic understanding of the UAB Joomla user manual strongly recommended. This workshop is targeted toward the audience of existing UAB site administrators. Registration for this workshop acknowledges a basic understanding of how to edit front-end content within the JCE editor (edit text, add pictures, create hyperlinks). Site content edit topics are covered within the Content Creation in Joomla course.

The purpose of this workshop is to develop a Joomla form using the RS Form! Pro component.
At the conclusion, participants should be able to:

  1. Make a simple, functional form using the RS Form! Pro component.

Technical Requirements: Previous Joomla experience and a basic understanding of the UAB Joomla user manual strongly recommended. This workshop is targeted toward the audience of existing UAB site administrators.
