Annual Open EnrollmentThe UAB Benefits Fair will be held on Tuesday, October 1 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the UAB Hospital West Pavilion Atrium. Please make plans to join us to learn more about our plans and meet our vendors.
Annual Open Enrollment for UAB employees will begin at 7 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013 and end at 5 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2013. Information was mailed to employees homes beginning September 19 and is also available on the UAB Benefits website at www.uab.edu/benefits.

AWARE program helps employees with disabilities return to work

The first time Tommie Reese Jr. was told he no longer had a job because of his poor health, he didn’t want to accept it.
The second time? The second time, he didn’t have to be told. He voluntarily walked away.
In 1995, Reese was forced to leave the Navy after being diagnosed with lupus — a chronic, inflammatory disease in which the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. Reese, an aviation administrator, was considered by the Navy’s medical staff to be a danger to others in the field. Later, in March 2010, Reese’s kidneys were failing, and his health was so poor that he had to quit his post as UAB Police shift leader and assistant to the dispatch supervisor. Read more at UAB News.
