As a supervisor, it is your privilege to help welcome your new employee to UAB. UAB Human Resources has developed the new Becoming a Blazer Onboarding Program for all full-time regular (01 status) and part-time regular (03 status) staff. To assist managers with promoting and guiding the employee onboarding process, Becoming a Blazer provides tools and resources necessary to welcome, direct and train new employees.

A new process has also been developed to assist irregular temporary (04 status) and full-time temporary (02 status) new hires with onboarding.

Taleo Task List

Taleo Task List

The first part of Becoming a Blazer is initiated by Recruitment Services through Taleo. The new employee will be assigned transactional tasks through the system once they are placed in the Hire status. Recruitment Services will work closely with the department to make sure the following tasks are completed:

  • Sending the hire letter that includes Taleo log-in instructions
  • Completion of section 1 and 2 of the I-9
  • Initiation and completion of the ACT hire document
  • Other tasks assigned to the new hire through Taleo Task List

Discover UAB

The second part of Becoming a Blazer is a required half-day session that will orient the new employee to UAB called "Discover UAB." The new employee is required to participate within two weeks of their hire date and will be scheduled by Recruitment Services.

Onboarding for Irregular Temporary (04 status) and Full-time Temporary (02 status) employees

Effective Sept 18, 2017, all staff 04 and 02 status department direct hires must follow the steps below to ensure proper I-9 and e-Verify processing:

  1. Submit PAR.
  2. Select Temporary Employee under Position Authorization Request.
  3. Select Department Fast Track.
  4. Complete and submit form.
  5. Once PAR is submitted, the hiring process will proceed per the chart below.
