Alesia Brown Adams is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S), Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP), and an MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Inventory) Certified Practitioner. She is a member of the American Counseling Association, the Alabama Counseling Association, the Employee Assistance Professional Association of Alabama, and the International Association of Employee Assistance Programs in Education. She received her undergraduate degree in Psychology and her Master of Arts in Counseling from The University of Alabama (UA). She has also completed Part I and Part II training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She is a member of the UAB Safe Zone training team and a past member of the Birmingham AIDS Outreach Board of Directors. Alesia is interested in integrative therapies that emphasize the mind/body connection and in particular teaching individuals to use mindfulness, meditation, movement, and breathing, as tools for moving through stress. She is a certified New Forest T’ai Chi instructor and has been teaching T’ai Chi classes for UAB employees since 2008. Alesia works with individuals on a wide array of issues including depression, anxiety, burnout, stress management, job related concerns, issues impacting LGBTQ individuals and their allies, communication, relationships, and grief and loss. She has worked with the Employee Assistance and Counseling Center at UAB for over 23 years.
