tennis shoesComing in May – UAB FITNESS CHALLENGE
Having a goal of 10,000 steps a day most people will average more than 150 minutes of movement.  Research suggests that the more activity you do the better. Start by having fun with co-workers and dance your way to 10,000 steps or walk your way to becoming a healthier you.

When: Every Tuesday in May
May 5 – Zumba
May 12 – Walking
May 19 – Walking
May 26 – Zumba

Where: WP Atrium
Time: 5:15 – 6:15 p.m.
What: Zumba and Walking to and from Railroad Park (if inclement weather, we will walk the indoor UAB Trails)
*First 200 participants will receive a pedometer to calculate each step.

Vision Screenings

16287 wpm hiresUAB School of Optometry Community Eye Care Department has partnered with UAB Wellness to offer vision screenings across the UAB Campus and UAB Medicine facilities. The screening will check vision acuity (distance and near vision), peripheral vision – non central points of vision, tonometry- pressure inside the eye, color vision, ophthalmoscopy (allows doctor to see inside the back of the eye.), and slit lamp-3-D view of different parts of the eye. No appointments necessary.


Screening Schedule:
All screenings will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

October 24: Education Building (EDU) 2nd floor lobby
October 31: John Whitaker Building (JNWB), room 104
November 14: Highland’s Media Center – 1st floor
November 21: Business and Engineering Center (BEC) 1st floor lobby
December 5: Medical Towers (MT) 1st floor break room
December 12: School of Public Health Building (Ryals), room 125

UAB Farmer's Market


UAB Medicine is providing the UAB Farmer's Market again this year to the staff and visitors of UAB. We are partnering with the Farmer’s Market Authority of the State of Alabama, part of the Department of Agriculture, to bring some of the best farmers in Alabama to the UAB Market this summer. 

The Market will be held every Friday from June 6 - August 29 and is open to both staff and visitors of UAB. 

Time:  11:00 AM – 2:00 PM  
Location:  North Pavilion Entrance

The Farm Stand is Back!

veggiesThe Farm Stand will be bringing fresh fruits and vegetables and other delicious treats to UAB each week. This year Boozer Farms will be operating The Farm Stand 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Scale Back Alabama

Scale Back Alabama is a 10-week program to encourage Alabamians to lose weight and exercise more. The goal is to lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks. This is a state-wide program that UAB is participating in, so you can view the official site at 

Cycliad bicycle challenge to benefit the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center

Cycliad Logo RD1Cycliad is a one-of-a-kind, 1,300-mile, four-weekend cycling challenge that begins in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on April 10 and ends in Birmingham on May 3. In addition to celebrating the completion of this cycling challenge, the Birmingham community has a unique opportunity to participate through the Community Ride, which supports a critical patient-navigator program for patients of the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center.
