  1. Where are you located?
    We have 2 locations: UAB Medical Towers Building (1st floor, 1717 11th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35205) and the Office of Student Outreach (Hill Center Suite 303, 1400 University Blvd., Birmingham, AL 35205).
  2. Is there a fee for service or cost involved?
    There’s no cost or fee, Blazer Kitchen is accessible to all UAB employees and students!
  3. Who can reach out to take advantage of what you have to offer, and how do they take their first step?
    There are two people to contact with questions: Tara Ransom at Medical Towers (tlransom@uab.edu, 205-834-2895) and Debbie Morgette at Hill Student Center (morgette@uab.edu, 205-979-9505). UAB employees and students must present a UAB ONE Card or VIVA Health Employee Badge and complete a brief questionnaire providing date of birth, mailing address, UAB affiliation, and household size and demographics. The questionnaire may be completed on your first shopping visit.
    • Food distribution for UAB employees and students takes place at Blazer Kitchen - Medical Towers, Wednesdays 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Thursdays 1-6 p.m.
    • Food distribution for UAB students only takes place at Blazer Kitchen - Hill Student Center, Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
  4. What’s unique about your department?
    Blazer Kitchen is a client choice food pantry that allows clients to choose what products they will receive. This model offers dignity for the client, eliminates waste while resembling a neighborhood market with a bodega vibe.
  5. What is your department's mission and purpose?
    To increase food security in the UAB community by providing healthy food, resources, and referrals to UAB employees, students, patients and their families. Striving to ensure those at risk have access to nutritious food and are treated with dignity.

  1. Where are you located?
    Our reach extends throughout all of UAB campus and hospital, but our official office is located on the 2nd floor of the Administration Building at the corner of 7th Ave S. and 20th Street, Room 270.
  2. Is there a fee for service or cost involved?
    It’s all free! In fact, one of our biggest programs each year (the WELLSCREENS campaign) is gifted to all full-time and part-time regular employees and employees on a UAB medical plan actually earn $50 simply for participating. Through the My Health Rewards program, employees can rack up entries for healthy habits that make them eligible to win a $25 gift card — 150 gift cards are awarded each month, so there are lots of opportunities to win!

    Most employees don’t realize that although we serve over 23,000 employees, our team is comprised of only two women! We live by the principles “strong but mighty and “flex on the fly,” knowing that every part of our department success is directly connected to collaboration with our incredible colleagues and community partners!

    UAB Employee Wellness strives to cultivate, innovate and nurture a collaborative approach for the individual and corporate health of UAB employees with a focus on five major areas: Tobacco Cessation, Nutrition, Physical Activity & Recreation, Prevention & Health Management and Wellbeing.

  1. Where are you located?
    2112 11th Avenue South, Suite 330 in Magnolia Office Park. We are “up on the hill” behind the Methodist Church with the large fountain in Five Points South.
  2. Is there a fee for service or cost involved?
    Clients are eligible for 12 confidential sessions of individual, couples or family counseling at no cost. Financial wellness counseling is also available at no cost.
  3. Who can reach out to take advantage of what you have to offer, and how do they take their first step?
    Employees and members of their immediate household are eligible for our program offerings. After filling out a little paperwork from our website, potential clients can return via fax to 205-975-7367 (using our HIPAA compliant fax coversheet) or through the USPS to our mailing address: 2112 11th Avenue South, Suite 330, Birmingham, AL 35205.
  4. What’s unique about your department?
    We are the largest in-house employee assistance program (EAP) in higher education within the state of Alabama and one of the oldest EAP programs in the state
  5. What is your department's mission and purpose?
    Our mission is to provide counseling, psychoeducation, stress management programming, and mental health support in a safe and caring environment as we promote the well-being of the individual. We will address the concerns of people with diverse needs and life experiences with respect for the dignity and confidentiality of the individual.

    Yes. We offer many membership, program, and service options, visit our website to find the plan that works best for you.

  4. What’s unique about your department?
    We have a rock climbing wall with a bouldering wall too, rent outdoor equipment (kayaks, corn hole sets, paddle boards, canoes, camping gear, wetsuits, etc.) and have an indoor track.

    We strive to help enhance a healthier quality of life for the UAB community.
