Dr. Evangelos Eleftheriou earned an HND (1982) in Mechanical Engineering in Cyprus, then completed a BS (1985), MS (1987) and PhD (1991) in Mechanical Engineering at Tennessee Technological University. While at Tennessee Tech, he conducted research first as a research assistant and then as research instructor at the Center for Excellence for Manufacturing; after earning a doctorate degree he remained at Tennessee Tech as a post-doctoral research associate in both manufacturing and electric power research until taking a position at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1992. Currently, he is an associate professor in the departments of Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, where he is very active in research, mentoring and professional organizations. Among other honors, he was recognized with a 2001 Faculty Achievement Award in the UAB School of Engineering. He has been widely published in scientific journals, as well as numerous other academic writings, proceedings and presentations.

Dr. Eleftheriou’s research interests include finite element modeling, structural dynamics, kinematics and biomechanics, among other areas.  His research for the SCIB is focused on enhancing the predictive capabilities of SIMon, specifically, experiments to determine if there is a cumulative effect or cumulative damage that develops as multiple injury cycles are repeated.
