The purpose of this research project is to design and construct a 9-axis accelerometer sensing array in a flat-pack configuration small enough to be attached, unobtrusively, to a mouthpiece used by a boxer.  Once the prototype is constructed, it will be tested in a boxing environment as well as in the automotive crash environment.   Recorded output data will be analyzed. Sensitivity and accuracy of data obtained from the prototype will be compared with data from documented, proven records. Subsequently, the contractor will determine the feasibility of adding telemetry, signaling, and power supplies to render the second generation prototype self-contained.
