Dr. Jay Goldman, Distinguished Service Professor and Dean
Emeritus of the UAB School of Engineering, is ICRC’s
acting associate director for research and scientific oversight.
He is also Co-Principal Investigator of SCIB.
Dr. Goldman is a graduate of Duke University, Michigan
State University, and Washington University in St. Louis,
Missouri. A professor at UAB since 1984, Dr. Goldman previously
served as chairman of the Department of Industrial Engineering
at the University of Missouri at Columbia in addition to
being a professor of both industrial and bioengineering.
His research and teaching interests have focused on administrative
organization and system design for productivity and quality
enhancement in the manufacturing and service industries,
the design of man-machine work systems, measuring human
performance, and exploring human factors in engineering.
He has authored or coauthored 75 technical publications,
presented some 100 technical presentations, and contributed
to numerous textbooks during his career. His comprehensive
knowledge and experience has caused him to be a widely
sought after consultant to more than 35 local and national
organizations as well as to many federal agencies.
Dr. Goldman is a member of the American Society for Engineering
Education and a life member and Fellow of the Institute
of Industrial Engineers, the National Society of Professional
Engineers and other professional organizations. In addition,
Dr. Goldman is presently or has been a member of more than
36 federal, state, and university-based advisory panels
and scientific study sections.
