UAB Robotics Program

UAB is proud to offer robotic surgery, a state-of-the-art, minimally invasive treatment for several medical conditions. UAB is one of the most experienced, comprehensive robotic surgery programs in the nation, with more than 20 surgeons performing nearly 1,000 surgeries each year.

What is robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery utilizes a machine called the da Vinci robot, which allows specialists to perform surgery with tiny incisions and minimal effect on surrounding healthy tissue. We like to think of the robot as a very high tech instrument; your surgeon’s hands do the work using the robot as a tool that allows for precise movements, a 360° range of motion, and a magnified, high definition 3-D view of the operating site.

What are the benefits of robotic surgery?

Robotic surgery has several benefits, including a faster recovery time and less pain and scarring. Other benefits of robotic surgery include minimal blood loss and a shorter hospital stay.

Why choose UAB?

The UAB Robotic Surgery Program is one of the largest in the Southeast and has the largest surgical volume in the country. UAB regularly sets new surgical standards and attracts hundreds of surgeons from around the world for observation and educational sessions. The UAB Robotic Surgery Program is staffed by 23 surgeons, including several fellowship-trained subspecialists who have received the maximum training in their field. As a patient at UAB, you can expect the best care possible from a skilled and compassionate team in a comfortable environment.
