THE KIRKLIN CLINIC AT UAB

The Kirklin Clinic was designed by world-renowned architect I.M. Pei, who also planned the expansion of the Lourve in Paris and designed its glass pyramid.

The Kirklin Clinic brings together specialists from all areas of UAB Medical Center. This multidisciplinary approach results in the highest quality patient care.

In 1992, a landmark clinic opened at UAB Medical Center. Covering an entire city block, the state-of-the-art Kirklin Clinic brings virtually every facet of adult outpatient care under one roof.

The five-story Kirklin Clinic, named in honor of UAB heart surgeon John W. Kirklin, M.D., provides examination and treatment rooms for 660 physicians in almost every specialty in adult medicine. The clinic also features consultation rooms, conference rooms, teaching areas, and the diagnostic and therapy facilities to support outpatient care on a large scale. And though efficiency and comprehensive care are the main benefits of the new clinic, much thought has been given to aesthetics and comfort, from the spacious glass-enclosed atrium to the courtyard and fountain.

One of the great advantages of the Kirklin Clinic is the presence of general practitioners and specialists from all fields. This unique mix of disciplines makes it easy for physicians to collaborate on diagnoses and treatments.

The academic component of the university-based clinic also benefits UAB patients. The UAB Medical Center is the hub for basic research and clinical trials of new medicines and technologies. The Kirklin Clinic offers the prospect of earlier access to these benefits for patients, and earlier use of innovative therapies by physicians.
