UAB Exchange Attachment Stripping
The list of quarantined extensions (below) is based on what was supplied by the virus scanning software first installed as part of the Exchange implementation. The list has been carried forward mostly intact to our current systems (including through a transition to a new AV vendor).
In general the filters try to block anything that is either immediately executable, can contain harmful macros, or is in a compressed format which can sneak viruses past the scanner. ZIP files are not filtered, for example, because they are trivial to decompress to examine for problem contents.
If you have need of a system to deliver a file of a type blocked by the UAB email system, consider using the new Dropbox service; information on Dropbox can be found here.
