Cyberinfrastructure Overview

According to the NSF CI Vision, Cyberinfrastructure (CI) supports broad and open access to leadership computing, data and information resources, online instruments and observatories, and visualization and collaboration services.    CI enables distributed knowledge communities that collaborate and communicate across disciplines, distance and cultures.  Then, research and education communities can become virtual organizations which transcend geographic and institutional boundaries.  At UAB, High Performance Computing  Services (HPCS), in collaboration with other IT Infrastructure Units, provides Research Computing and Cyberinfrastructure support. In house specialties include; Middleware, Identity Management Federation, Collaboration Tools, and support for a wide range of CI services and development of grid-based applications.

A list of solutions and resources supporting the campus cyberinfrastructure can be found on the main Research & Scholorship page.
