Effective October 1, 2013, UAB's student offering for Microsoft Office Products will change.

Microsoft's new Office 365 University product provides a 4-year subscription to every new Office app, plus SkyDrive storage and Skype calling on 2 PCs or Macs plus mobile devices.  The cost of the subscription to students is $79.99 and is valid for 4 years.  Students can purchase the subscription directly from Microsoft or online through UAB's software download provider, Kivuto.

This new subscription-based service replaces the previous offerings UAB made available to students through the UAB Bookstore and online download for Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.). UAB will continue to offer students free access to Microsoft Forefront (anti-virus) and server-based products such as SQL and Windows Server, however, Microsoft Windows desktop operating systems (Windows 7, 8) are no longer available to students through UAB.
For more information, see the Microsoft Campus Agreement website.

Students that have previously installed one of the Microsoft Products that are no longer licensed for student use (generally those items where media was purchased at the UAB Bookstore or via online download such as Office, Windows-client Vista/7/8) should be aware that they are no longer licensed to use those products per the terms of the Microsoft agreement they signed at the time the media was delivered. While existing installations will continue to function, UAB encourages all students to migrate to the Office 365 University offering as soon as possible to ensure appropriate license compliance and to gain access to the new features.

For more information see the Microsoft Campus Agreement website.

Adobe Software

UAB has negotiated a discounting program for Adobe products.  This program allows for the purchase of Adobe products for use on both UAB owned and non-UAB owned systems for home-use.  For more information on availability and use-rights see information below.

Products for UAB Owned Systems (Faculty/Staff only)

Effective June 1, 2010 CDWG is the authorized reseller for purchase of Adobe products for use on UAB owned systems. The agreement allows the UAB faculty/staff community to acquire, at a discount, all Adobe software titles that the company makes available to higher education institutions. This list includes, but is not necessarily limited to, the following:

  • Acrobat Standard for Windows and Mac
  • Acrobat Pro for Windows and Mac
  • Creative Suite Premium for Windows and Mac
  • Photoshop CS for Windows and Mac
  • Illustrator CS for Windows and Mac
  • InDesign CS for Windows and Mac
  • Pagemaker for Windows and Mac

Pursuant to the agreement, the software may only be installed on university-owned computers. Prices are subject to change and thus cannot be posted on this site. A license must be ordered for each PC on which the software will be installed. The media (CDs) to perform the installation are not included with the license, but can be ordered separately if needed.  Generally, Adobe/CDWG will notify you by email after the order is accepted.
