Alabama Regional Optical Network

The Alabama Regional Optical Network (Ala-Ron) is a dedicated (dark-fiber) dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM), network completed in January 2008. Owned and operated by the University of Alabama System, and contract agreement with Georgia Tech and the Southern Light Rail (SLR), Ala-Ron connects the University of Alabama's three research institutions to the National Lambda Rail and Internet2.  The figure below shows the currently funded scope of this optical network.  Future interconnections with the Alabama Supercomputer Authority (ASA) in Huntsville will be completed in late 2008.
