PGP Client License Troubleshooting

If your PGP software is popping up expiration notifications, try the following first:

  1. Connect to the Internet.
  2. Open PGP Desktop and click Tools -> Synchronize All Keys.
  3. Click Help -> About PGP. If the software was able to properly communicate with the campus server, the about screen will say "Expires: 08/29/2011" on the right-hand side.

If you receive an error message or the expiration date doesn't update, your software will need to be repaired in order to properly update.

To resolve the issue on normal installs

  1. Connect to the Internet and download the latest PGP installer from http://www.uab.edu/it/software/index.php.
  2. Close PGP Desktop, right click the PGP lock icon in the systray and choose Exit PGP Services.
  3. Remove the following directories under each user (represented by below):
    •  Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PGP Corporation\
    • \Application Data\PGP Corporation\
    • \Local Settings\Application Data\PGP Corporation\
    • \My Documents\PGP\
  4. Run the new PGP installer. Restart and login.
  5. When each user logs in, he/she will be prompted to enroll with the PGP server. Please ensure that the user enters his/her BlazerID and password at the prompt for server enrollment. This gives the user a recovery token.

  6. When you see the dialogue box for creating a single sign on user (below), the user will need to enter his/her login credentials for that computer. Finish the enrollment and open PGP Desktop, then choose Help -> About PGP, and the license should now expire 08/29/2011.

To resolve a standalone installation
NOTE: This same procedure will be required every year for standalone installations.

If you have a special case requiring a standalone installer (e.g., computers that don't connect to the Internet), please follow the instructions below:

  1. Contact AskIT (996-5555 or askit@uab.edu ) to obtain the standalone installation files.
  2. Close PGP Desktop, right click the PGP lock icon in the systray and choose Exit PGP Services.
  3. Remove the following directories under each user (represented by below):
    • Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\PGP Corporation\
    • \Application Data\PGP Corporation\
    • \Local Settings\Application Data\PGP Corporation\
    • \My Documents\PGP\
  4. Run the new PGP installer. Restart and login.
  5. When you see the dialogue box for creating a single sign on user (below), the user will need to enter his/her login credentials for that computer. Finish the enrollment and open PGP Desktop, then choose Help -> About PGP, and the license should now expire 08/29/2011.
