What You Need
You will need:
- A computer running a modern operating system such as Windows XP, Mac OS 10.3 or newer, or Linux.
- An Ethernet card with an RJ-45 jack. Many computers now come with these built in. If yours did not, you can purchase an Ethernet card almost anywhere computer hardware is sold. We recommend a good quality card such as those from 3COM, Intel, or Linksys. The card will have instructions on how to install it in your computer; alternately, many computer stores will install it for a small fee.
- An RJ-45 jack looks like a standard phone jack, only larger. A phone cord will not work. You must purchase a Cat5 cable from the bookstore or local computer store.
- A BlazerID to log on to the network. This is also sometimes called a phonebook alias. If you don't have one of these yet, you may claim one in the process of setting up your system, but you will need to know your student ID and date of birth. A BlazerID is REQUIRED for ResNet access. Many other online campus services also require a BlazerID and password for access.
You may also need your operating system disks during the setup process. Please have these handy.
