UAB W2K-E2K Active Directory Project
Statement of Project Scope
The scope of this effort is to
- Plan, design, and implement a central Windows 2000 with AD in
native mode to support a centrally supported Windows 2000 service
with a centrally driven common user directory and authentication
(for Windows 2000)
- Naming Standards to guide the migration and future
rollouts
- Procurement (or development) of first generation tools to
accomplish the scope
- Delegated control of resources to unit administrators
- Migration plan and implementation for the existing Exchange
Organization that wishes to move
- Provide a basis for future projects that exploit this
architecture
- Assist in the process of staffing for development and long
term support of this infrastructure
A non-exhaustive list of deferred items (which may become future
efforts) includes
- New (massive) deployments of Windows 2000 sites
- PKI
- New (massive) deployments of Exchange 2000 mailboxes
- Applications that depend on Windows 2000 AD
- Research efforts that require local control of Windows 2000
Active Directory and Exchange 2000 characteristics that are
inconsistent with the central infrastructure system.
- Integration of HIS, Health Services, or other units into the
process.
Again, there is no intent to diminish the importance of any
of these out of scope activities but rather merely the intent to
limit scope to increase the possibility of success of this
project.
