The sticky humidity and sweat inducing heat can mean only one thing--it’s summer in Alabama.

While many of our state’s residents may live in their swimsuits or simply avoid the outdoors altogether during this time of year, the hot weather is sure to bring some hot trends.

Here are some of this season’s sizzling looks:
1)Sandals
Not just for when you’re “On A Boat,” these summer favorites can range from minimalistic to ornate and can provide the perfect ending to an outfit.

Gladiator sandals are still huge, and are even more fierce than when they first debuted last summer.

Blending Native American-inspired style with classic cool, suede or leather fringe is quickly becoming a favorite detail for many sandal designs.

For a simpler summer staple, classic flip-flops in materials like plastic and rubber are always a good option to punctuate an ensemble.

2)Straw bags
For a beachy cool way to carry belongings, look to none other than purses made of straw. This season’s bags are particularly representative of summmertime as many display ocean themes with coral patterns and bright bursts of color.

The very best are basic straw with just a hint of hot hues like blue, yellow, and orange design. From wristlets to oversized totes, these seaside throwbacks serve as the perfect place to store your summer essentials (ahem, sunblock!).

3)Shirt dresses
Made in light, breathable materials, these are basically longer men’s dress shirts with added feminine flare. Button-down shirt dresses are often tapered at the waist to accentuate the figure without sacrificing comfort for the hottest days of the year.

To add a more girly feel, add a thin belt and flats. While shirt dresses are ideal for warm weather work days, they can also be dressed down by wearing skinny jeans underneath.

4)Maxis
Another summer must-have is the maxi dress. Long and flowy, these dresses are the ultimate in comfy cool.
Whether in paisley patterns, florals, or solid colors, the maxi serves to cover up the body without stifling it. The boho-chic celebrity favorite is also great for throwing on over the swimsuit after a day of splashing around at the beach or pool.

5)Sunglasses
No summer outfit is complete without hot eyewear. Just as in recent seasons, bigger is better (the more lense, the less sun in the eyes).

Aviators and wayfarers are also popular styles, and large cat eye frames are definitely sizzling.

An added bonus of a great pair of sunglasses? Reduced chance of crow’s feet from squinting in the sunlight. Meld function and fashion while looking fabulous!
