Dragon Trail good hit for job search

Top Videos new

UAB Career Services’ Dragon Trail is a feature that helps place students in part-time and full-time jobs, as well as in co-ops and internships. The service itself is absolutely free for students.

In order to access Dragon Trail, a student just signs into BlazerNET (blazernet.uab.edu), clicks the Student Resources Tab, and then clicks “Enter the Dragon Trail” in the UAB Career Services portal. Signing up takes less than a minute.

“On Dragon Trail, students can access job listings and career information, schedule meetings with a career consultant, register for on-campus interviews, register to participate in co-op, internships, mentoring, and job shadowing, access online seminars, training videos, and career resources and view a calendar of events: career fairs, live seminars, and other career events,” according to the UAB Career Services website (careerservices.uab.edu).

Once a student has signed up for Dragon Trail, they have access to job and internship postings. Students can narrow a search down to employment type, whether it’s for a job or internship; the job function, which covers anything from clerical work to research; the job industry; and eligibility, which includes major and GPA.

Students can also upload their resume in PDF format through Dragon Trail.

Students have the option to create a profile through Dragon Trail. Profiles may include information such as name, address, phone number, major, and current GPA. A student can also upload a resume through the profile section of Dragon Trail as well.

According to Suzanne Scott-Trammel, Executive Director of UAB Career Services, UAB Career Services offers much more than just job, internship, and co-op searching.

“Our tagline is explore, experience, prepare, succeed. Explore means that we help students with different career options. Experience is where we help students find different internships and job shadowing. Prepare is where we help students prepare their resumes and target lists. Finally, succeed is where we help students negotiate and make good impressions on potential employers,” Scott-Trammel said.

Scott-Trammel feels that, unfortunately, many students do not utilize the resources provided by Career Services to the full potential.

“I don’t think enough students take advantage of our service,” she said. “I don’t think there is enough awareness of UAB Career Services or Dragon Trail. Our service is free. We can help anyone and everyone whether it’s through an appointment or other means.”

Kalli Rasbury, editor of Modern Contractor Solutions, is an employer who has a profile on Dragon Trail and was a representative at the recent part-time job fair. She believes that there was a good response at the job fair.
“We have had a few people come,” Rasbury said.

UAB Career Services is located in the Hill University Center, Room 532. The office is open from 8AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday.
