Reference

The Reference faculty and staff are available and eager to help you locate and retrieve the information you need. A variety of services may be requested either in person or by telephone, fax, or via the Internet. The HUB is located on the first floor of the Library and serves as the primary service point for your informational needs. Come by or call (205) 934-2230 for more information. Librarian-Mediated Database Searching
Library users may also request a librarian-mediated computer search on their topic. Trained librarians will conduct a database search on any one of the several hundred databases available for online searching. A web request form is also available. Call (205) 934-2230 for more information.

Educational Services
Lister Hill Library offers a number of different classes and services in retrieving and managing health information. These include library tours, orientations, information retrieval seminars for particular subject specialties and databases, Internet classes, and consultations on special information needs. Seminars or hands-on workshops may be requested and customized for specific groups. Call (205) 934-2230 or come by the Information Desk for more information.

UAB Historical Collections

The Reynolds Historical Library, Alabama Museum of the Health Sciences, and the UAB Archives together comprise UAB Historical Collections. The Reynolds Historical Library represents a nationally respected collection of rare and important books, manuscripts, and artifacts in the medical sciences. The Reynolds collection, originally formed by Dr. Lawrence Reynolds (1889-1961), ranks among the top collections of its type in the United States.

The Alabama Museum of the Health Sciences was established to document the growth and development of education, research, and practice in the field of the health sciences in Alabama.

The Reynolds Historical Library & Alabama Museum are located on the 3rd floor of Lister Hill Library. Scholars wishing further information may contact the staff at (205) 934-4475.

The UAB Archives is the official repository for the records of the University and also collects manuscript materials that document the history of the health sciences. Although a part of the Historical Collections unit, the UAB Archives is physically separate from the library and access to the collection is by appointment. Instructional Technology

The Instructional Technology Center is an educational software evaluation and distance learning consultation facility for use by UAB faculty, staff and students. This facility will investigate and evaluate new technologies as they emerge and will assist the faculty in applying these new hardware and software systems to distributed learning applications, such as WebCT VISTA. The role of the Center is to provide a technical support foundation that the faculty can use to launch an online course or to augment an existing course with online course material.
