Medical journal reader apps

There are a variety of free journal reader apps currently available.  Some focus specifically on medical literature.  Some of these apps include:

  • QxMD
  • Docwise
  • Docphin
  • Pubget

Many of these apps allow users to select their home institution and connect to full text through their library's subscriptions.  This works well for journals the library holds standard subscriptions to, however, the library receives current full text content to many journals through aggregators like Clinical Key and CINAHL.  Usually journal reader apps are unable to provide full text access to this content even though it is available through the library.

To access full text content, use the library's website to search for journal titles or databases.  You can also search PubMed via LHL and use UAB Article Linker to find and download the full text.  Regardless of whether UAB has a subscription or not, you will be able to use these apps to read abstracts and news.

For questions or concerns, please Ask a Librarian.
