How do I get my thesis or dissertation bound?

If you want to submit your thesis or dissertation as an ETD and you would like to have bound copies as well, the Sterne Library will assist you in having those copies bound.

After final approval by the Graduate School, take the number of copies that you want to have bound to the administrative offices at Sterne Library during normal business hours. Check your printed copies to be sure they have printed and copied correctly throughout. Your pages will not be checked for correctness before they are sent to the bindery.

Because these copies will not be placed on the shelf in the library, there is no special paper requirement; however, they will have a more professional appearance and have a longer shelf life if you use a high quality paper. White 20-24 lb., acid-free, 8 x 11, watermarked paper (available in most office supply stores and professional copy centers) is the usual choice for bound dissertations.

The cost per copy varies slightly depending on the current library contract, but is usually $25- 30 each. Ask at the desk at the time you submit your copies. You may pay by check, payable to UAB - Sterne Library.

Your bound copies will be returned to Sterne Library in approximately 3-4 weeks. You will be notified when they are ready to be picked up.
