LHL ADDS MORE FULL-TEXT ONLINE JOURNALS
Over 600 more journals are now available electronically to the faculty,
staff and students of UAB and other Alabama Universities. Approximately
200 of these are health sciences journals owned by Lister Hill Library.
The electronic access has been made available through the cooperative efforts
of the Network of Alabama Academic Libraries (NAAL).
The 600 scientific and technical journal titles
are published by Elsevier and accessed through their online product called
ScienceDirect. ScienceDirect offers both browsable and searchable
access to Elsevier's technical and scientific journals. You can select
a journal and browse its table of contents and then set up an e-mail alert
whereby you will be notified by e-mail when a new issue is added to the
database. You can also search across the complete database and then
set up the search to be run daily or weekly and e-mail the search results.
The ScienceDirect database consists not only
of the electronic versions of the print journals to which NAAL members
subscribe, but also access to the abstracts for all other Elsevier journals.
Many of the articles not only have abstracts and full text available, but
also have "Summary Plus" which includes an outline of the article, figures,
and bibliographies with hot links to cited articles that are available
in ScienceDirect.
ScienceDirect utilizes the easy-to-use Lexis-Nexis
searching software and has both basic and advanced searching modes.
Instructions for using the many special features of ScienceDirect are available
in the ScienceDirect User Manuals available in PDF-format for reference,
download, or printing. ScienceDirect can be accessed at http://www.sciencedirect.com.
