To provide timely and central access to materials in high demand, Lister Hill Library maintains a course reserve collection, which consists of physical items that can be checked out or items that are available electronically. Any UAB instructor can place materials on reserve by completing a course reserve request form, which can be accessed at the forms page.
You can choose to submit the Electronic Form or Paper Form (Editable pdf). Materials from the library’s collections or the instructor’s personal items can be placed on reserve. Materials that the library owns will be pulled and prepared for processing once a request has been received. Reserve requests will be processed in the order that they are received and as quickly as possible but usually within five working days. Items can be held on reserve for an entire semester unless otherwise noted by the library or the instructor.
The library reserves the right to deny a reserve request if it determines that such a request violates copyright law or library policies. Persons with questions regarding the library’s reserve services should contact the Course Reserves Coordinator, Cathy Beadlecomb at 205-934-2461 or via email at
. Please see below for further information.
Lister Hill Library Course Reserves are materials chosen by UAB faculty to support their class instruction. They can include the following types of resources:
Books
DVD’s
CD-ROM’s
Book Chapters
Journal Articles
professor’s notes or papers
Other Online Resources
LHL Course Reserves are split into two sections:
Physical Course Reserves:
Physical Course Reserves are resources such as books, DVD’s and CD-ROM’s that are placed on course reserve and made available for a limited 3-hour check out at the HUB on the first floor. They can be resources that LHL owns or they can be lent to the library by the faculty member and returned once the semester ends.
Electronic Course Reserves:
Book chapters, journal articles, professor’s notes or papers, and other online resources are made available via Lister Hill Library’s Electronic Course Reserves system (E-Res).
For both Physical and Electronic Course Reserves, faculty or their representative will need to fill out the Electronic form. Please fill in the form as completely as possible as that helps our staff to better process requests in a timely manner.
For detailed instructions submitting requests via the Electronic form, please click HERE.
Processing generally takes 5 working days, holidays and weekends excluded, but we encourage you to submit requests in advance if possible. Rush requests will be handled as time allows.
Persons with questions regarding the library’s course reserve services should contact the Course Reserves Coordinator, Cathy Beadlecomb at 205-934-2461 or via email at
.
Books on Course Reserve can be found at the Reserves Desk on the ground floor (room G19) of the Lister Hill Library. Students must present a valid UAB student ID at the time of checkout. The reserve items circulate for a three hour period and must be used within the library building. Items returned late accrue a fine of $1 per hour late.
