LHL Copyright Guidelines
The UAB Copyright Policy can be found at http://www.iss.uab.edu/Pol/CopyrightCtab.pdf.
Section 107 of the United States Copyright Act of 1976 describes fair use. LHL adheres to copyright law in support of both the copyright holder and fair use principles.
The following guidelines are followed by LHL as applicable.
- Materials are placed on E-Reserves at faculty request and responsibility and costs for obtaining copyright permission if needed rests with the faculty member.
- Electronic materials licensed by the library permit use in courses because the copyright permission fee is part of the cost of purchasing the materials.
- LHL staff can facilitate the granting of permission and handle the process of paying fees if requested.
- Materials for E-Reserves that are not owned by UAB will be purchased if possible or requested through Interlibrary Loan. This may take up to 2 weeks.
- Longer works (more than 50 pages) will not be accepted for E-Reserves. Materials must be within the limits of fair use to be eligible for E-Reserves.
- E-Reserves' materials will only be available through WebCT courses by Blazer ID and will be limited to only those students registered for the class.
- There will be no charge for accessing materials through E-Reserves.
- Access to E-Reserves will require click-through acknowledgement of the copyright permission notice.
- When the course ends, materials will be removed from the E-Reserves system. Another request is needed to make material available when the course is taught again.
