Twenty-four hour access is available through the library's security
system, for individuals with ongoing direct
patient care responsibilities in the hospital.
Patrons should contact the library at 4-2275 to arrange for an access
code.
Holdings
The library has approximately 400 textbooks, and currently subscribes to approximately 60 clinically-oriented journal titles in print and thousands in electronic format. Recent journal issues
are housed in the library and texts are no older
than 10 years. Materials housed in the library do not circulate.
Recommendations for additions to the library's collection are welcome.
Reference Services
Two full-time Librarians and a full-time Library Associate are
available in the library to perform computerized literature searches, answer
reference questions, and provide assistance and training in locating information.
Requests for these services may be made in person, by telephone, by email,
or by fax.
Table of Contents Service
A customized Table-of-Contents service is available through the library.
All active Medical Staff may select tables-of-contents from ten journal
titles to be sent to them electronically.
Document Delivery Services
LHL@UH participates in Lister Hill Library's Document Delivery
services. Patrons may request copies of articles through the library's
website. Contact the library for
current charges and additional information.
Computers
Eight Windows workstations are available in the library for patron use,
providing access to all the databases available through Lister Hill Library.
Two of the machines are on the CenterNet
network, providing access to the Internet and the hospital's systems.
Wordprocessing and other productivity software is available for public
use. The workstations are available on a first-come, first-serve
basis. Contact the library for current printing charges and additional
information.
Copying and Printing
A printer and photocopy machine are located in the library for patron use. The UAB CampusCard
is used to pay for prints and copies. Contact the library
for current charges. All cash transactions are subject to the UAB surcharge
and sales tax.
Questions or Suggestions
The library is staffed by two full-time Librarians and one full-time Library
Associate. The staff of Lister Hill Library at
UAB University Hospital strive to offer the most up-to-date and valuable
services to their clientele. Suggestions on new programs or improvements
