The Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic (AVRC) is one of ten national centers for testing of preventive AIDS vaccines in uninfected volunteers. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, the AVRC conducts clinical trials of experimental AIDS vaccines.
The goal of the research studies is to evaluate the safety and the immune responses induced by the HIV vaccines under study. The AVRC also conducts other studies such as treatments for recurrent genital herpes and an avian(bird) flu vaccine.

Volunteer Needs: Up to 150 HIV-negative volunteers are needed each year for clinical trials conducted at the ARC.
Volunteer Requirements: Volunteers must be HIV-negative, in good general health and at least 19 years of age or older. Men and women of all races and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to participate.The AVRC is a component of the Division of Infectious Diseases with UAB's Department of Medicine.
