Research in Progress Seminar Series (Thursdays, 12-1pm, SHEL 318) The Research in Progress Seminar Series is an informal series designed to encourage graduate trainees, postdoctoral fellows, as well as faculty, to present their most recent data. The goals of this event seek:
- To assist the development of early-stage research projects by providing constructive suggestions
- To facilitate coordination, collaboration and interaction among investigators and trainees
- To identify, to evaluate and to develop new research opportunities
- To bring more fundamental and mechanistic research questions to the bedside
The series is open to researchers with interests in rheumatic diseases, mechanisms of autoimmune diseases, cellular and molecular immunology, structure and function of immunoglobulins, transgenic models of immune function, transplantation immunology, neuroimmunology, and genetic variation of immune response genes and the impact on immune system function, including the predisposition to autoimmune and immune-mediated inflammatory diseases and the characteristics of host responses to infectious agents. Human translational and outcome studies are encouraged.
SCHEDULE
Methodology Education and Development Series (TBD) This seminar series is based on the more traditional seminar/discussion format and intermixes between presentations by UAB methodologists and distinguished visiting faculty. Featuring extramural speakers, in addition to their seminar, spend part of their visit in focus groups with faculty and trainees. Topics have ranged from Propensity Scores, Meta Analyses, Patient Reported Outcomes, and Comparative Effectiveness Research, Power calculations, Admixture Mapping in African American and Hispanic populations, mediation modeling and testing, and LASSO regression methodology and its application in genetic association studies. To extend their reach on campus, speakers are co-sponsored by other UAB units such as the Departments of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Medicine or Psychology and UAB Centers including the Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics for Musculoskeletal Diseases (CERTS) and the Center for Outcomes Effectiveness Research and Education (COERE).
Program in Immunology Seminar Series (Thursdays, 4-5pm, BBRB 170) The Program in Immunology Seminar [JAC1] Series hosts guest speakers representing a variety of academic and industrial institutions. The speakers present seminars based on their work in the field of Immunology, broadly writ. The goals of the speaker series extend not only to learn of the ongoing research inside and outside of UAB, but also to provide the opportunity for faculty and students to interact with colleagues to promote scientific dialogue. The series is collaboratively supported by Departmental and Center contributions.
SCHEDULE
Cell Biology Seminar Series (Wednesdays, 3-4pm, Finley) The Cell Biology Seminar Series is a diverse network of immunology, neurology, systems biology, developmental biology and other mechanistic studies seeking to understand the integration of signals that predicate normal cell function, and by extension, how that is interrupted in disease manifestations.
SCHEDULE
Microbiology Seminar Series (Tuesdays, 12-1pm, BBRB 170) The Microbiology Seminar Series is a tradition, inviting internal and external expertise, to explore the biological mechanism of the micorobiota, viral particles, and the immune response, in addition to the interplay thereof.
SCHEDULE
Genetics Seminar Series (Fridays, 12-1pm, Finley) The Genetics Seminar Series meets weekly, highlighting broad expertise of internal and external faculty speakers exploring diverse model systems to understand genetic phenomena underlying biologic mechanism.
SCHEDULE
Pathology Seminar Series Among the Divisions in the Department of Pathology, there are a robust series of seminars featuring a robust panel of speakers each week:
- Laboratory Medicine Seminar Series (Tuesdays, 12-1pm?, WPCC-D)
- Molecular & Cellular Pathology Seminar Series (Thursdays, 2-3pm, BBRB 170)
- Pathology Conferences and Seminars
SCHEDULES
Rheumatology Grand Rounds (Thursdays, 8-9am, WPCC-D) Rheumatology Grand Rounds , sponsored by the UAB Division of Continuing Medical Education (CME), serves to provide an informal venue in which participants present and discuss ongoing research and clinical care of rheumatic diseases as well as a forum to feature guest speakers invited to UAB with expertise in Rheumatic Disease research and patient care.
