The Center for Community Outreach Development
UAB’s Center for Community Outreach Development CORD is a university-wide Center whose mission is to advance the outreach efforts of UAB in the Birmingham community.

Summer Science Institute
CORD offers three summer research experiences for high school students. The Summer Science Institute is a 3-4 year program of summer research experiences for high school students interested in learning what it is like to do “real” science. During the first two years, students participate in classes that focus on biological and chemical principles. These courses provide the necessary foundation for the students to spend their final summer as student research interns, working in a research laboratory doing experiments for their own original project under the supervision of UAB faculty and staff.

HudsonAlpha Summer Camps
HudsonAlpha proudly partners with Sci-Quest to offer biotechnology-focused summer camp opportunities for middle school age students. With two levels of summer camp offerings, they provide an experience that is both educational and fun regardless of prior knowledge in genetics and biotechnology.  There are events about the “Code of Life” (Basic Camp) and “Beyond the Basics” Transforming DNA”.  Both week-long adventures take place in Huntsville, AL.
