Associate Professor of Medicine

William T. Evanochko (b. 1951), Associate Professor, received his Ph.D. in physical-organic chemistry from Auburn University in the field of NMR spectroscopy. He received postdoctoral training in radiochemistry also relating to NMRS at Argonne National Laboratory under the tutelage of the late Dr. Gerhard Closs. In 1980, he joined UAB to further his studies in the biomedical applications of NMRS.

Research Interests

Muscle metabolism
The evaluation of the rejection process in cardiac transplantation and the determination of regional assays may provide a more thorough diagnostic evaluation and insight into the mechanism of cardiac allograft rejection, including

  • plaque formation & rupture
  • lipids causing damage to the microvasculature of the heart muscle (manifesting as an ischemic progress)
  • alterations in the high-energy phosphates
