rehab3_200 The Cardiac Rehabilitation rotation provides the didactic, observational, and experiential opportunities necessary to the acquisition of knowledge and skills in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.

Duration

Cardiology Fellows on the Echocardiography Rotation are assigned to this unit two mornings per week. The rotation is is “outcomes based;” the minimum duration of the rotation is guided primarily by acquisition of the required skills rather than a by specified number of months.

Patient Population

Patients with cardiovascular disease requiring specific plans to reduce risk factors and improve health.

Clinical Responsibilities

Specific imaging techniques of CT and MR angiography, including coronary CTA and MRA are incorporated into daily practice.
Fellows will have a brief rotation on clinical services.

Essential Skills

  • Interpretating all aspects of thoracic imaging including
    • conventional radiographs of the chest
    • chest CT
    • cardiac CT
    • MRI
  • Performing percutaneous biopsies and drainage procedures in the thorax.
  • Observing/performing CT/PET.
  • Understanding cardiopulmonary pathology.

Educational Outcomes

Cardiologists successfully completing this rotation will be proficient in:

  • Performing studies using state of the art equipment and techniques challenging image-guided interventional procedures in the chest.
  • Managing time effeciently.
  • Communicating effectively with patients, trainees, and other physicians.
  • Developing teaching skills through didactic intradepartmental conferences and interdisciplinary conferences.
  • Conducting quality research (for academic physicians).
