CDIB IT: Connect to the Phaser printer (Mac)

(Note: the following directions are for OS X 10.3 and later. Please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for connecting to the Phaser from OS X 10.2 and earlier versions.)

The Phaser is located in THT 934.

(1) Click this link to access the drivers for our Phaser 8560:

(2) Click on the link for the Macintosh Driver Installer.
(3) Click the large square Install button.

(4) The installer will download a file called Phaser_8560_Installer_enu.dmg to your default download location, normally your Desktop. The download is 14MB in size, so it may take a few minutes.

When the download is complete, double-click this file.

(5) The downloaded file will unpack into an installer drive and mount on your desktop. A window will open containing one file, called Phaser 8560 Installer. Double click this file.
(6) If you have an administrative password set for your Mac, you will need to enter it here.
(7) Click Agree on the license agreement screen to continue.
(8) Leave the Installer set to Easy Install and click Install. The printer drivers will be loaded onto your hard drive.
(9) Click NO when asked about launching the "Xerox PrinterScout."
(10) Click Finish to leave the Installer. If a printer registration page appears, you should close it without providing any information.
(11) Now, pull down the Apple menu at the top left hand corner of your screen and choose System Preferences.
(12) Click on the Print & Fax icon in System Preferences.
(13) In the Print & Fax dialog box, click the plus sign below the list of printers (circled at left) to add a printer to your system.

(14) Fill out the information on this screen exactly as follows (click the image at left for a full size screenshot):

  • Protocol: choose Line Printer Daemon (LPD) from the pulldown menu
  • Address: 138.26.40.35
  • Queue: (leave blank)
  • Name: CDIB Phaser 8560 (or any other name, i.e. Color Dept Printer, that makes sense to you)
  • Location: this field will automatically fill in
  • Print Using: Choose Xeroxfrom the pulldown menu
    • Then, scroll through the list of Xerox printers and choose Xerox Phaser 8560DX
  • Click Add at the bottom right.
