  • Congratulations to Cell Biology Chairman Etty (Tika) Benveniste, Ph.D.  Dr. Benveniste has been elected as a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
  • The Department of Cell Biology was recently awarded one of six "Annual Quality Allocations" from the School of Medicine Dean's Office.  As a note, this is the second year in a row the Department has been awarded this recognition.

  • Congratulations to Stephen Jordan, a graduate student in the laboratory of Dr. Julian Rayner. Stephen won the Department of Medicine's Samuel B. Barker Award for his presentation of "Determination of the Optimal Domain for Inclusion in a PfMSP3-based Malaria Vaccine."
  • Congratulations to Melanie Styers, a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Elizabeth Sztul. Melanie received a fellowship from the Susan G. Komen Foundation for her grant "Characterizing Mechanisms that Regulate Cdc42 Activation in Breast Cancer."  
  • Congratulations to Xueyan (Snow) Zhao, a graduate student in the laboratory of Dr. Tika Benveniste, for winning the 2007 FEBS Journal Prize for her paper "The interferon-stimulated gene factor 3 complex mediates the inhibitory effect of interferon-β on matrix metalloproteinase-9 expression."
