FINANCIAL ASSOCIATE:

Responsible for general financial duties including invoice processing, procurement activities, account monitoring and reconciliation and contributing to financial reporting.  No UAB experience required.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and one year related experience.


Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides assistance, often of a complex technical and clerical nature, to the Financial/Business Officer for a department or unit. Works closely with the Financial/Business Officer on such matters as monitoring sizeable budgets, providing projections and costing, preparing grants and contracts, maintenance of financial databases and the production of a wide array of financial reports. Reconciles accounts. Sets up financial tracking systems. Interfaces with purchasing department and vendors in tracking orders and payment requisitions and researching problems. Operates with a high degree of independence due to extensive knowledge of financial processes, policies, and regulations that dictate the financial operation of the department or unit. May supervise staff. May have some human resources related responsibilities. May interface with external institutions to establish grants and contracts. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and one year related experience.

FINANCIAL OFFICER I:

Responsible for pre and post award grants management duties including expenditure audits, progress reporting, budget development, financial forecasting and reporting. This position requires excellent excel skills, strong communication (written and oral) skills and the ability to work well under pressure.  UAB experience preferred but not required.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and two years related experience.


Responsible for providing fiscal and budgetary services to an assigned unit. Uses knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures specific to accounting, financial analysis and budgetary processes. Manages assigned departmental accounts and provides ongoing financial analysis of departmental accounting functions. Assures proper accounting for state, grant, contract and/or revenue accounts as assigned. Provides analysis of gross expenditures and makes recommendations for maintaining fiscal stability. Assists in developing and administering budgets. May establish and maintain financial management databases and systems which conform to standard accounting practices. Monitors adherence to financial policy and procedure. Develops and provides financial statements and reports to upper management on regular or requested basis. May supervise departmental accounting operations and activities which could include approval and processing of disbursement and internal requisitions. Interacts with vendors and complies with UAB bid policy and procedures. May make decisions regarding the use of financial resources. Provides financial guidance to assigned staff and appropriate University personnel and coordinates integration with University accounting system. May prepare and/or supervise processing of departmental personnel action forms and as well as assume some payroll duties. Acts as liaison with appropriate University financial staff. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field and two years related experience.
