This is the fifth BRAIN AWARENESS WEEK (BAW) I've been involved with and the third I've helped organize. I was drawn to neuroscience in college when I took a neuroscience class to fill a general requirement. It merged psychology with a biology and gave me explanations for behavior, why we do what we do; I was hooked. In Dr. Michelle Olsen's lab I now study genetic forms of mental disability as well as injury to the brain and spinal cord. We study cells called astrocytes and how they work normally and in injury or disease. When I grow up I want to work with all of my favorite things: animals, science, and teaching. I love BAW and hope others do too!
