The UAB Department of Dermatology offers comprehensive care for skin diseases in patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and for complex cutaneous infectious diseases in non-HIV infected individuals.
HIV and Dermatology
HIV positive patients are more likely to develop a variety of skin problems ranging from itching, seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff), warts, eczema, Kaposi's sarcoma and cutaneous infections. Skin diseases are more frequent in HIV positive individuals. They often have atypical manifestations and can require special forms of therapy. The HIV and Infectious disease Dermatology Clinic specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cutaneous conditions in HIV positive individuals.
Infectious Diseases of the Skin
Patients who have unusual and uncommon infectious diseases are evaluated and treated in this clinic.
