ABSTRACT SUBMISSION for Oral Presentations & Posters

NEW INFO: Competition

There will be a competition for the best oral and poster presentations by trainees at MIC 2014. Winners will receive a small travel award to defray the cost of attending the MIC 2014 meeting.

For oral presentations, a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize will be awarded. One 1st, two 2nd, and three 3rd prize awards will be given in each category. 

Who is an eligible "trainee" for these awards? Any undergraduate student, graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, or technician with <4 years experience, and junior faculty with <2 years independent experience.

Further details of these awards will be given at the beginning of MIC 2014. But in the meantime, if you are eligible, polish up your presentations!

Abstract Guidelines

All abstracts are due no later than Monday, March 10, 2014.

1. All abstracts must be a MicroSoft Word document file, following the formatting instructions below.

2. Make sure you indicate whether there is a preference for an oral or a poster presentation.

3. Please submit your abstract as an attachment and email it to:


4. Please include the presenter's and/or communicating author's name, institution address, email address, and telephone number in the email message. It is noted that in some instances the presenter and communicating author may be one and the same.

5. If the Word file is incorrectly formatted, you will be contacted for resubmission. Please follow the formatting instructions below.

6. Faxed and regular mail submissions cannot be processed and therefore will not be accepted.

7. Acknowledgment of an abstract acceptable for review will be issued by a return email.

8. Abstracts accepted for presentation at the MIC 2014 meeting will eventually be published for registered attendees in the MIC 2014 Meeting Booklet and under the Program Schedule tab of this website in late April 2014. 

Abstract Formatting Instructions (Microsoft Word file)

a. The abstract must have no more than 500 words, excluding the title, author list and author's institution(s) list. Please spell out Greek symbols, e.g. use "beta" instead of "ß". 

b. Use only 11 pt Arial or Georgia font throughout the abstract. Do not make the title bigger and the references smaller.

c. Set up margins of 1.5 inch (3.5 cm) throughout (top, bottom, and sides).

d. Single-space the abstract text, with a double space between the title, authors, and text.

e. The title of the abstract must be bold and in upper and lower case, i.e.: "This Is the Abstract Title."

f. Title must be no more than 120 characters long (excluding spaces).

g. Authors’ names should be in upper and lower case, i.e.:

John Doe*, Jane Anyone, and Jack Somebody.

h. Place an asterisk (*) after the presenting author’s last name.

i. As a footnote, please note the current position of the presenting author: undergraduate student, graduate student, postdoctoral fellow, technician, junior faculty, etc. If the presenting author holds a junior faculty position, please state in parentheses how many years they have held that post.

Note: Trainees and junior faculty with <2 years of experience are eligible for oral presentations and for presentation/poster awards.

j. Following the authors’ list of names, please list departmental and institutional affiliation, city and state (or country, if outside of the United States) as appropriate for the authors.

k. Any reference citations can be in any accepted format, but will count as part of the 500-word limit.

l. Save your abstract as a MS Word file, name the file "the-presenting-author's-last-name.doc" (e.g., Doe.doc), and make sure you use the correct settings.
