The convention will be held in Orlando, Florida August 2 – 5, 2012, and sessions in the obesity track include, “Contributors to Obesity: Exploring the Roads Less Traveled,” by Dr. David Allison, “Transforming Systems to Reduce Childhood Obesity,” and several others.

UAB HealthSmart UAB HealthSmart, a downtown wellness and chronic disease-prevention center in the heart of downtown Birmingham, opened in March 2011 as the UAB MHRC’s newest core facility. Designed to support UAB through community outreach and to facilitate the integration of research, training, and service, UAB HealthSmart disseminates evidence-based practices, offering free preventive screenings and risk assessments, nutrition and fitness classes and counseling, Lunch and Learn talks and other health-education tools promoting the prevention of chronic diseases, and opportunities to take part in UAB research studies.
