The consequences of early menopause in women are significant and include excessive bone loss and vasomotor symptoms.  Dr. Melissa Wellons, Assistant Professor in the Divisions of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, and Reproductive Endocrinology has discovered that early menopause is also associated with early heart disease.  In this study of over 2600 women, the study participants who reported spontaneous early or surgical menopause had an increased risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke.   Dr. Wellons’ research will be published in the journal Menopause.  The results of the study were also reported by Reuters News.
