Clyde Guidry, Ph.D. Print E-mail

Associate Professor of Ophthalmology

Biography:
Dr. Guidry completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas Arlington (1981) and graduate studies in Cell Biology at the University of Texas Health Science Center Dallas (1986). After postdoctoral studies in Biochemistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Guidry joined the Department of Ophthalmology (1992).

Research Program:
Dr. Guidry's studies are directed toward understanding the cell biology of acute (retinal tears and detachment) and chronic (diabetic retinopathy) fibroplastic changes in the retina. We are currently focused on understanding the process through which cells associated with retinal scar, develop tractional forces the cause of retinal detachment and perturbations. To this end, we use tissue culture models designed to mimic the intraocular environment, isolated populations of ocular cells established in culture and animal models. ( Dr. Guidry is currently principal investigator on NIH/NEI grant R01 EY 13258 and research grants from the International Retinal Research Foundation, Research to Prevent Blindness, and the EyeSight Foundation.)
